About this place
After choosing a glass of sake, you may find yourself wanting more than one dish. At Masuya Saketen, diners have enjoyed namero and potato salad with iburigakko alongside sake, and shared how well the flavours worked together. The potato salad includes crunchy iburigakko, smoked daikon pickles, and is described on the menu as a signature snack. A half portion is available. The namero, a finely chopped fish dish, also comes in a half portion, making it easy to try several plates solo or start with a light snack.
For something quite different, there is yuba pizza with blue cheese. One diner who tried it said they enjoyed it; it adds a change of pace to a selection that might also include grilled mackerel heshiko, cream cheese pâté with dried persimmon and walnuts, or Kyoto red chicken dressed with wasabi miso. Warm dishes include grilled nama-fu with dengaku miso and teriyaki chicken with a Japanese peppercorn sauce. You could focus on snacks to accompany your sake and finish with a grilled rice ball.
The sake selection features bottles from across Japan, as well as tasting sets. Diners have remarked on the range and the pleasure of choosing, and sampling several sake varieties while deciding what to eat is one way to enjoy the menu. For fish, options include the day’s sashimi platter, which can be ordered to suit the group after checking with staff, and a seasonal-fish carpaccio with lemon koji. Dishes change according to what is available from suppliers, and some can be ordered in half portions. You can stick with a favourite and add a recommendation from the day.
There are tables as well as a standing area, and the restaurant is suited to solo dining. Choose a table for a leisurely meal of several dishes, or enjoy sake and small plates at the standing counter.
